Survival along the Nile attracted the first settlers to Egypt.
As the population grew Egypt developed into two kingdoms, upper and lower Egypt.
In approx 3200Bc after a battle the kingdom were united and a new capital city established at Memphis.
The Nile River provided the water and rich new soil each time it flooded to renew the farms that produced the food on which the society relied on.
Religious matters were very important to Egyptians. They believed in life after death and had their body embalmed so it would not decay and thus it could be used in the after life.
Rich people would try and ensure that they would be buried with enough riches to live an easy life in the next world.
Some kings had pyramids build to house their burial chamber.
