Stele of Irynefer
Stele of Irynefer, an artisan who worked for the royal tombs, and of his family. Under the arch, from left to right: Anubis, Osiris, Amenhotep I and his mother Ahmose-Nefertari. Amenhotep I (d. 1504 BC) supposedly founded the artisan community for the royal tombs (now Deir al-Madinah), who took him as its tutelar god. Sandstone, New Kingdom period, found in the tomb of Irynefer in Deir al-Madinah. Photograph by Guillaume Blanchard.
