  • Legend has it that the Aztec people migrated from a northern land called Aztlan, hence their name Aztec.

  • They settled the area around what is now Mexico City in the 1200's AD.

  • They suffered the Spanish conquest in 1520-21AD.

  • They invented their own calendar of a 365 day year. (18 months of 20 days plus 5 days)

  • They recorded events in the form of pictographs.

  • Their form of agriculture involved planting corn, tomatoes, cotton, cacao, avocados, beans, squash and sweet potatoes.

  • All goods were carried by people. They did not use the wheel. They did not use pack animals.

  • Their spoke language was called "Nahuatl".

  • Religion played an important part in daily life. It involved human sacrifice.
