  • usually have wings

Skeleton

  • Insects have an external skeleton that does not grow. The insect must shed the skeleton in order to get larger.

Life cycle

At birth the nymphs look similar to adults

  • a nymph hatches from an egg and begins to feed
  • as it grows it sheds it external skeleton in order to grow larger
  • it emerges as a adult after it sheds it skeleton for the last time

At birth the larvae look dissimilar to adults.

  • Larva or a caterpillar hatch from an egg and begins to feed
  • when the larva sheds its skin for the last time it becomes a pupa, often inside a cocoon it has made
  • inside the cocoon the body of the larva evolves into an adult insect
