  • they have compound eyes capable to see ultraviolet light
  • they build nests from resin and wax
  • hives can range from a few hundred bees to over 100,000
  • they can be essential in the pollination of certain plants
  • carpenter bees are able to cut into solid wood structures
  • each hive has a queen, drones and worker bees
  • the queen is the largest bee in the hive
  • a queen can lay between 2000 and 3000 eggs a day
