Size: l.8-2.8m long and weigh up to 272kg

Life Span: in the wild up to 15 years

Current Status: endangered, with the Bali, Javan, and Caspian tigers now extinct

Habitat: from tropical rainforests to cold spruce forests

Fast facts:

• eats small to medium size animals

• they prefer dense areas that provide plenty of cover

• their claws are retractable

• it is believed that their stripes act as camouflage in the surrounding dense vegetation

• they have excellent night vision

• they are good swimmers

• it can take up to 20 attempts before a kill is successful
