March 6, 1937 in Maslennikovo, Yaroslavl, Russia
- she began school when she was
eight years old
- in 1953 she left school to
begin working in a textile plant however she continued her
education through correspondence courses.
- she became involved in
parachute jumping and this was a reason she was picked for the
cosmonaut program
- onboard Vostok 6 on the 16th
of June,1963 she was launched into space becoming the first
woman in space
- she spent nearly three days in
space
- she never made a second trip
into space
- she became a representative of
the Soviet government and an important member of the Communist
Party
