Possum Skin Cloaks

In Victoria, one of the most common articles of clothing worn was the possum skin cloak. The cloaks, made up of approximately 50 skins, were waterproof and warm. The skins were dried, decorated and sewn together, then the whole surface might be coloured with ochres.

This picture shows a design found on one of the few surviving cloaks.
