Common name: Quokka

Scientific name: Setonix brachyurus

Location: extreme south west part of Australia.

Size: 90cm long and weigh up to 3 kg

Life Span: 5 years in captivity

Current Status: endangered, under constant attack by feral animals.

Habitat: low scrubby vegetation

 

Fast facts:

  • eats grass, leaves, seeds, and roots
  • they regurgitate their food and chew it
  • can go for months without drinking
  • is a marsupial
  • can hop on two legs and walk on all four
  • males are called boomers
  • females are called fliers
  • babies are called joeys
  • authority comes with age
  • they are nocturnal (sleeping during the day)
  • males are dominant
  • they have short legs with sharp claws
  • breed once a year
  • live in group of between 25 to 150
  • the males defends his space
