Common name: Zebra

Scientific name: Equus quagga (Plains Zebra)

Location: Africa

Size: up to 130 centimtres tall, between 200 and 260 centimetres in length, and weigh up to 350 kg.

Life Span: 25 years, up to 40 years in captivity

Current Status: not endangered however the Cape mountain zebra was nearly hunted to near extinction and Grevy's zebra is also low in numbers

Habitat: from grasslands, savannas, woodlands to mountains.

Fast facts:
--- the pattern of stripes are all unique
--- the function of the stripes might be to confuse predators
--- their main predators are Lions, cheetahs, leopards,hyenas and hunting dogs
--- their food consists mainly of grasses
---a large herd suddenly moving in all directions confuses attackers
---the stripes confuse insects
---use hooves and teeth in defense
